Call for papers: Special Issue on “Identity, Privacy and New Technologies”

The impact of new technologies on privacy has generated extensive coverage amongst the legal academy. This issue aims to chart a new direction for scholarship. Our primary interest is in defining the emerging models for identity management where sophisticated technology is arguably reconfiguring the boundaries of private and public spaces. Do we mean the same things when we talk about identity management as opposed to privacy?
The insights generated from this question will help us frame the governance issues and their relevance for national, regional and globalised views of identity. Can the EU practice under the Data Protection framework provide an exemplary model? The Orwellian conception of privacy invasions has long been a spectre in the debates governing the normative foundations of law. Do we need a different discourse? From an institutional or cultural perspective, can self-regulation assist in defining norms and values that act as curbs on privacy invasive technologies?
Contributions are invited from scholars, practitioners and industry for papers which advance our understanding of identity management in general, and more specifically models of governance that can be used to generate insights for policymaking and rulemaking. To what extent are the current laws sufficient in protecting the identity/privacy of individuals and what are the tensions that exist in protecting privacy/data protection within the online environment?
The purpose of this issue is to address the intersection between identity, privacy and technology, discussing the challenges that face policy makers, legislators, technologists and society as a whole. Subjects to be considered include the freedom of expression, data protection laws and the role of technologies.

Virtual manufacturing is an initiative to define every aspect of product development digitally. It provides a platform to support product design, analysis, manufacturing, data sharing and communication. The Internet technology is an effective tool for resource sharing and data distribution in dynamic manufacturing systems.
The integration of virtual manufacturing and Internet technologies can improve the performance of manufacturing industry in business competitiveness. If such integration succeeds, the product life cycle will decrease, leading to low manufacturing costs.
In order to achieve the cost-effective solutions for virtual manufacturing in web-based environments, it is important to understand how related issues can work together efficiently and cost-effectively. One of the obstacles in the implementation of Web-based virtual manufacturing is the weak interoperability between various exciting product development systems. Breaking down the walls between the obstacles will greatly foster virtual manufacturing, and therefore help manufacturers improve manufacturing efficiency and quality of products.
The purpose of this IJIMS special issue is to promote and disseminate research for virtual manufacturing in web-based environments. WRITR is a new, multidisciplinary, refereed publication intended as a forum for practitioners, academics and policymakers from around the world to exchange concepts, research, and best practices in the field of intermodal transportation.
Transportation is the essential link in the domestic and global trading system. The demand for transportation that is safe, efficient, and cost-effective has given rise to the increasing use of multiple modes of transportation within the supply chain of many firms. To successfully deliver in an era of just-in-time inventory systems, the intermodal transportation system must be responsive to firm needs for speed, reliability, security, and tracking. Policy makers at all levels of government also have an interest in developing systems that balance the safety and security needs of their constituents with business and consumer objectives.
Even as developed nations grapple with the replacement of aging transportation infrastructure and the integration of transportation modes that initially developed in isolation, developing nations are being called upon to develop the transportation system that will enable their citizens to participate in the global trading system and enjoy its benefits.
Furthermore, from a global perspective, the fact that most forms of transportation rely on non-renewable resources as fuel makes it important that transportation systems minimise the use of scarce resources and consider long-term sustainability an important goal of any system.
The objective of WRITR is to act as a catalyst for the international exchange of ideas, knowledge, and skills relating to transportation systems, supply chain management, and logistics. It is intended to benefit businesses, policy makers, and researchers from both the developed and the developing world.
Readership: WRITR is designed to provide individuals, managers, professionals, researchers, and policy makers with the tools to understand not only the individual modes of transportation, but also the linkage between the various modes and their impact on supply chain management and firm performance. It is a forum for these same groups to disseminate ideas and best practices from their fields or regions of the world

Microbial immobilisation technology has been developed and widely employed in wastewater treatment for decades. In general, microbial immobilisation can be classified as biofilm, aerobic and anaerobic granulation. By using microbial immobilisation technology, different species of bacteria with various biological functions can be immobilised into one entity which has characteristics of a compact and dense structure, quick sludge-water separation ability and high biomass retention. These advantages in turn lead to the design of a highly compact bioreactor which has been successfully applied for effective removal of organics, nutrients (N and P) as well as recalcitrant and toxic chemicals from both municipal and industrial wastewater.
In recent years, intensive research efforts have been dedicated to the fundamental mechanisms of microbial immobilisation and the potential applicability of this technology in treating a variety of specific types of wastewaters. Therefore, we are calling for papers which report the up-to-date progresses on the mechanism of microbial immobilisation as well as the application of this technology in the area of wastewater treatment.

Recent developments in information and communication technologies (ICTs) provide new technical opportunities to exercise a novel learning environment – mobile learning (M-learning), which goes far beyond the traditional learning paradigms, i.e., classroom and e-learning. For instance, the Ambient Wood project carried out by Sussex University (U.K) has demonstrated how a mobile and ambient environment can provide a more effective learning experience than traditional classroom learning. In another learning context, MIT (USA) has developed an M-learning tool to help students understand complex and dynamic epidemic phenomena, simulating them with learners’ wearable mobile devices, demonstrating significant advantages over current e-learning applications. Even Nintendo’s DS handheld console is to provide an enjoyable way to improve English skills.
In addition to these academic cases, many other domains (e.g., health practitioners) also see the advantages of M-learning environments in providing personalised content (e.g., dietary information, quit smoking programmes) via the mobile phones that have become so pervasive in recent years. IJMLO is therefore publishing this special issue which will be a timely issue for both academics and practitioners who are interested in the design and development of effective learning environments.
The issue intends to discuss the latest M-learning applications and technologies beyond the desktop computing environment, an area of research that is increasingly seeing new developments and techniques in both the academic and commercial domains. How to effectively take the user into account within the emerging M-learning environment has formed a persistent theme in the academic field. In contrast, much of the industry perspective on M-learning applications has been what kind of learning products and content can facilitate the uptake of this new learning environment.
The purpose of the special issue is therefore to disseminate studies about how we meet the challenges of this technology, practical experiences of the design of M-learning environments, the current development M-learning systems in either academia or industry, current methods and approaches to M-learning development, the current economic and social context of M-learning development and empirical research into contemporary M-learning environments.

The aim of this special issue is to provide an overview of the global motorsports marketplace. The objective is to focus a small but growing body of literature about motorsports, with the hope of stimulating future research. The goal is to publish a group of articles that will provide management and marketing tools for practitioners. Consequently, the issue seeks submissions, which include both theoretical and applied research, and both empirical results and non-empirical perspectives. Practitioner perspectives are strongly encouraged.

In recent decades, research and development of technology in the public sector has led to several new and innovative technology applications in the private sector. The transfer of technology from the space programme and military research and development into the private sector has yielded many technological innovations in industries such as healthcare, transportation, safety, and athletic equipment. This technology transfer has also fostered job growth and the creation and growth of companies.
However, how this transfer occurs is not always well understood or documented. Technological innovations that might have promising applications in the private sector often fail to get transferred. There could be several reasons for this failure. Often, knowledge about the technology is not disseminated well, so there is a lack of awareness regarding the technology. In other instances, the failure occurs at the incubation stage, because of lack of support. Yet again, in some instances, there are no effective channels for the technology transfer.
The goal of this special issue is to focus on the transfer of technology from the public sector (e.g., government) to the private sector. The existence of effective channels and models of technology transfer in this environment would greatly accelerate the application of several leading edge technologies.

In recent decades, research and development of technology in the public sector has led to several new and innovative technology applications in the private sector. The transfer of technology from the space programme and military research and development into the private sector has yielded many technological innovations in industries such as healthcare, transportation, safety, and athletic equipment. This technology transfer has also fostered job growth and the creation and growth of companies.
However, how this transfer occurs is not always well understood or documented. Technological innovations that might have promising applications in the private sector often fail to get transferred. There could be several reasons for this failure. Often, knowledge about the technology is not disseminated well, so there is a lack of awareness regarding the technology. In other instances, the failure occurs at the incubation stage, because of lack of support. Yet again, in some instances, there are no effective channels for the technology transfer.
The goal of this special issue is to focus on the transfer of technology from the public sector (e.g., government) to the private sector. The existence of effective channels and models of technology transfer in this environment would greatly accelerate the application of several leading edge technologies.

These issues, due to the collective nature of today’s work, are crucial to the development of present organisations. Plain and flexible structures, the importance of training and culture formation, as well as the increasing dynamism of labour markets, are new variables to be incorporated in this analysis, and make team working a hot topic for today’s firms and institutions.
Moreover, the debate over the team concept and its differences to other collectives (for example, work groups) is still open. Something similar happens to what the role played by HR policies means, as well as team performance measures or knowledge management issues. The internationalisation of economic activities also adds a point of complexity, giving rise to new uncovered topics, such as diversity management strategies or the incorporation of expatriate and repatriate workers.
We invite conceptual or empirical papers that address these (and other) critical issues in the management of teamwork. Papers should add value both to theory-building and practice. We welcome empirical, conceptual, and case-study based that increase our understanding of the global teamwork phenomena while stretching theory horizons.

The most efficient usage of energy resources has been challenging both the energy industry and academia for more than two hundred years. It is often difficult, if not impossible, to experiment with real large-scale or expensive energy production systems, to determine improved or optimal solutions. Also, analytical models of energy technology problems can only partially explain and solve real-world problems and this is usually only achieved with significant simplifications to the models, which make them less representative of the real world.
However, with advances in computing, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation has been widely used in recent years to model and solve energy related problems. Advanced simulation modelling techniques have been developed and widely employed in energy processes simulations such as the finite element or boundary element methods. Applications of CFD simulation vary widely and present a fascinating range of scenarios and techniques.
Hence, this special issue of IJETP is intended to present the development and application of CFD simulation in energy related studies. The most efficient usage of energy resources has been challenging both the energy industry and academia for more than two hundred years. It is often difficult, if not impossible, to experiment with real large-scale or expensive energy production systems, to determine improved or optimal solutions. Also, analytical models of energy technology problems can only partially explain and solve real-world problems and this is usually only achieved with significant simplifications to the models, which make them less representative of the real world.
However, with advances in computing, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation has been widely used in recent years to model and solve energy related problems. Advanced simulation modelling techniques have been developed and widely employed in energy processes simulations such as the finite element or boundary element methods. Applications of CFD simulation vary widely and present a fascinating range of scenarios and techniques.
Hence, this special issue of IJETP is intended to present the development and application of CFD simulation in energy related studies. The papers may present the development of CFD simulation techniques, CFD simulation methodologies and case studies in the application of simulation, to solve all types of real-world energy problems.
