Call for papers: Special Issue on “Current Mobile Learning Technologies and Applications”
International Journal of Mobile Learning and Organisation (IJMLO)
Call for papers: Special Issue on “Current Mobile Learning Technologies and Applications”
Guest Editors: Dr. Hokyoung Ryu, Dr. David Parsons and Professor Tony Norris, Massey University, New Zealand.
Recent developments in information and communication technologies (ICTs) provide new technical opportunities to exercise a novel learning environment – mobile learning (M-learning), which goes far beyond the traditional learning paradigms, i.e., classroom and e-learning. For instance, the Ambient Wood project carried out by Sussex University (U.K) has demonstrated how a mobile and ambient environment can provide a more effective learning experience than traditional classroom learning. In another learning context, MIT (USA) has developed an M-learning tool to help students understand complex and dynamic epidemic phenomena, simulating them with learners’ wearable mobile devices, demonstrating significant advantages over current e-learning applications. Even Nintendo’s DS handheld console is to provide an enjoyable way to improve English skills.
In addition to these academic cases, many other domains (e.g., health practitioners) also see the advantages of M-learning environments in providing personalised content (e.g., dietary information, quit smoking programmes) via the mobile phones that have become so pervasive in recent years. IJMLO is therefore publishing this special issue which will be a timely issue for both academics and practitioners who are interested in the design and development of effective learning environments.
The issue intends to discuss the latest M-learning applications and technologies beyond the desktop computing environment, an area of research that is increasingly seeing new developments and techniques in both the academic and commercial domains. How to effectively take the user into account within the emerging M-learning environment has formed a persistent theme in the academic field. In contrast, much of the industry perspective on M-learning applications has been what kind of learning products and content can facilitate the uptake of this new learning environment.
The purpose of the special issue is therefore to disseminate studies about how we meet the challenges of this technology, practical experiences of the design of M-learning environments, the current development M-learning systems in either academia or industry, current methods and approaches to M-learning development, the current economic and social context of M-learning development and empirical research into contemporary M-learning environments.

Call for papers: Special Issue on “The Management and Marketing of Motorsports”
International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing (IJSMM)
Call for papers: Special Issue on “The Management and Marketing of Motorsports”
Guest Editor: Larry DeGaris.
Despite its multibillion-dollar annual revenues and global popularity, motorsports management and marketing have received comparatively little rigorous analysis. In particular, motorsports has captivated corporate sponsors so that, for example, sponsorship revenues of NASCAR exceed that of the NFL in the U.S. Yet, published research in the area tends to be sparse and fragmented.
The aim of this special issue is to provide an overview of the global motorsports marketplace. The objective is to focus a small but growing body of literature about motorsports, with the hope of stimulating future research. The goal is to publish a group of articles that will provide management and marketing tools for practitioners. Consequently, the issue seeks submissions, which include both theoretical and applied research, and both empirical results and non-empirical perspectives. Practitioner perspectives are strongly encouraged.

Call for papers: Special Issue on “Technology Transfer from Public to Private Sector”
International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation (IJTTC)
Call for papers: Special Issue on “Technology Transfer from Public to Private Sector”
Guest Editors:
Professor Rajesh Srivastava, Florida Gulf Coast University, USA
Professor Richard Franza, Kennesaw State University, USA
In recent decades, research and development of technology in the public sector has led to several new and innovative technology applications in the private sector. The transfer of technology from the space programme and military research and development into the private sector has yielded many technological innovations in industries such as healthcare, transportation, safety, and athletic equipment. This technology transfer has also fostered job growth and the creation and growth of companies.
However, how this transfer occurs is not always well understood or documented. Technological innovations that might have promising applications in the private sector often fail to get transferred. There could be several reasons for this failure. Often, knowledge about the technology is not disseminated well, so there is a lack of awareness regarding the technology. In other instances, the failure occurs at the incubation stage, because of lack of support. Yet again, in some instances, there are no effective channels for the technology transfer.
The goal of this special issue is to focus on the transfer of technology from the public sector (e.g., government) to the private sector. The existence of effective channels and models of technology transfer in this environment would greatly accelerate the application of several leading edge technologies.

Call for papers: Special Issue on “Team Work in Organisations”
Guest Editors:
Dr. José Sanchez Pérez, Dr. Gonzalo Sanchez Gardey, Dr. Pedro M. Romero Fernández, Dr. Fernando Martín Alcazar, University of Cadiz, Spain.
Although, in the last decade, work teams have received extensive treatment from academics, there are still many uncovered dimensions of this research question. These issues, due to the collective nature of today’s work, are crucial to the development of present organisations. Plain and flexible structures, the importance of training and culture formation, as well as the increasing dynamism of labour markets, are new variables to be incorporated in this analysis, and make team working a hot topic for today’s firms and institutions.
Moreover, the debate over the team concept and its differences to other collectives (for example, work groups) is still open. Something similar happens to what the role played by HR policies means, as well as team performance measures or knowledge management issues. The internationalisation of economic activities also adds a point of complexity, giving rise to new uncovered topics, such as diversity management strategies or the incorporation of expatriate and repatriate workers.
We invite conceptual or empirical papers that address these (and other) critical issues in the management of teamwork. Papers should add value both to theory-building and practice. We welcome empirical, conceptual, and case-study based that increase our understanding of the global teamwork phenomena while stretching theory horizons.

Call for papers: Special Issue on “Towards New Modes of Forest Management Based on a Sustainability Background”
Guest Editors: Professor Salem Y. Lakhal, Professor Souad H’mida and Dr. Martin Béland, University of Moncton, Canada.
The development of customer awareness about ecological problems of forest products puts the wood industry into the center of customer interest. Wood product companies must work to be sustainable and economically profitable, especially if they are to survive today's world of rapid changes in technology, increasing complexity in products, strong competition and mounting pressure from consumers and civil society to respect the environment. These factors require companies to integrate, among other things, environmental protection dimensions into their supply chain operations, to seek eco-certifications for their products, processes, and forest harvesting practice.
How do these schemes affect actual management practices and environmental protection in forest and wood industries supply chains? There are already some sporadic researches published on this topic but many researches state that we still know too little about forest sustainable management, its impact (costs of output, prices, trade of forest products, etc.) and efficiency as a problem-solving instrument.
Taking the above notions into account, areas covered by the special issue include but are not limited to:
* Certification and business practices in industrial forest product supply chains
* How certification has contributed to change policies and processes which lead to sustainable forest management
* Accommodating multiple interests in local forest management: a focus on facilitation, actors and practices
* Forest industry and CO2 emissions
* Environmental regulation and corporate strategies in forest products industry
* The supply chain concept applied to forest and wood industries
* Complexity of wood product cycle
* Competitiveness and environmental policies for sustainable forest
* The effects of environment and technology on wood product export
* Life cycle analysis of wood products
* Multifunctionality in forest industry
* Aggregation of sustainable development indicators in forest and wood industries
For more information, subject coverage, notes for intending authors, submission dates and contact information, please see the Journal Call for papers website.

Guest Editors: Dr. Matti Sievänen and Mikko Varila, Tampere University of Technology, Finland.
Product innovation and R&D are considered to be the central sources of competitive advantage and crucial drivers for economic growth. Managing product development is a major challenge because of its inherent uncertain, complex and multidisciplinary nature. Measurement of R&D has always posed great problems due to the multiformity of R&D activities and the fact that the outputs are often intangible and are realised only over a long term. Furthermore, the success of an R&D project can be viewed differently by different stakeholders. The result of a project can be a success even if the project itself was a failure, and vice versa. A better understanding of the R&D function and its measurement can help to make R&D more productive.
The objective of this special issue is to investigate and describe different ways of measuring R&D, and to examine how measurement affects R&D performance. Thus, it aims at advancing our understanding of the R&D function and helping managers to design and implement R&D measurement systems.
For more information, subject coverage, notes for intending authors, submission dates and contact information, please see the Journal Call for papers website.

Call for papers: Special Issue on “Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations in Energy Technologies and Processes”
International Journal of Energy Technology and Policy (IJETP)
Call for papers: Special Issue on “Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations in Energy Technologies and Processes”
Guest Editor: Prof. Viorel Badescu, Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania.
The most efficient usage of energy resources has been challenging both the energy industry and academia for more than two hundred years. It is often difficult, if not impossible, to experiment with real large-scale or expensive energy production systems, to determine improved or optimal solutions. Also, analytical models of energy technology problems can only partially explain and solve real-world problems and this is usually only achieved with significant simplifications to the models, which make them less representative of the real world.
However, with advances in computing, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation has been widely used in recent years to model and solve energy related problems. Advanced simulation modelling techniques have been developed and widely employed in energy processes simulations such as the finite element or boundary element methods. Applications of CFD simulation vary widely and present a fascinating range of scenarios and techniques.
Hence, this special issue of IJETP is intended to present the development and application of CFD simulation in energy related studies. The papers may present the development of CFD simulation techniques, CFD simulation methodologies and case studies in the application of simulation, to solve all types of real-world energy problems.

Call for papers: Special Issue on: “Technology Policy vs. Industrial Policy: a Comparison of Overlapping and Competing Approaches to R&D”
International Journal of Technology Management (IJTM)
Call for papers: Special Issue on: “Technology Policy vs. Industrial Policy: a Comparison of Overlapping and Competing Approaches to R&D”
Guest Editor: Professor Junmo Kim, Konkuk University, Korea.
Industrial policy has been regarded as a potent tool for R&D policy, yet its 'visible hand' traits have been gradually understood as sources for distortion in the economy and society. With intensified requirements for knowledge economy, societies and governments tended to opt for technology policy for their policy tools for R&D. The seemingly separate concepts, in fact, share much of the same foundation.
Taking the above context as a backdrop, this special issue intends to cover several sub-areas of the theme:
* Firstly, it aims to cover national strategies or international comparison of industrial and technology policy to draw reasonable implications for different constituencies of policies
* Secondly, it will compare the efficacy and limitations of the two approaches to R&D
* Finally, a theoretical discussion on industrial policy and technology policy can also be presented, while all the three sub-areas are better suited with empirical cases and approaches

International Journal of Environment and Waste Management (IJEWM)
Call for papers: Special issue on: “Metal Ions Removal From Liquid Effluents”
Guest Editor: Prof. K. A. Matis, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
Fresh water is usually thought of being abundant and easily accessible; in reality, it seems that less and less water is available for the needs of an increasing world population, and a considerable disparity exists between the amounts of water available for the developed world and for the developing or under-developed countries. In addition to the potential shortage of water, another severe problem is the pollution of available fresh water streams (sources, resources) by various undesirable substances some of which, e.g. the heavy metal ions, are toxic for humans through the food-chain pyramid.
In some cases, these substances are unfortunately natural constituents and pollution of these streams seems to have happened accidentally but in most, the presence of metal ions is the result of a certain human activity, industrial, agricultural or household; toxicity depends on many chemical and physical parameters of the metals solution including their aqueous speciation. Several metals as copper, zinc, cobalt, however, in trace quantities are essential for living organisms. Further, as new economy activities are in fact surprisingly dependent on traditional raw materials (i.e. a PC typically contains ~30 mineral ingredients), metals recovery except separation is of great significance.
National and international legislation (i.e. the principle of sustainable development in EU, etc.) enforces the treatment of these streams in order to remove the noxious components and different techniques have been developed to achieve this. The conventional processes to treat this kind of water (namely precipitation, precipitation/reduction, ion exchange/sorption bed filtration, the membrane processes and so on) have often disadvantages, such as the following and for this reason, mainly, research is being carried out; high use of treatment chemicals, large quantities of sludge produced, inadequate selectivity, slow kinetics, low capacity, fouling and scaling problems, cost-ineffectiveness.
There is also a trend to apply combined and hybrid treatment for this case: examples presented in the literature in recent years include: membrane bioreactors, distillation-reverse osmosis, distillation-membrane pervaporation, membrane-ozonation systems.
Papers discussing current research in these and related areas are welcome.
For more information, subject coverage, notes for intending authors, submission dates and contact information, see the Journal Call for papers website.

Call for papers: Special Issue on: “Economics of Agricultural Biotechnology”
International Journal of Biotechnology (IJBT)
Call for papers: Special Issue on: “Economics of Agricultural Biotechnology”
Guest Editors:Professor Richard Bennett, Dr Bhavani Shankar and Dr Chittur Srinivasan, University of Reading, UK.
Developments in agricultural biotechnology have the potential to increase agricultural outputs, reduce the level of input usage, improve product quality and characteristics, provide consumers with new products and reduce externalities associated with agricultural production. All of these can improve economic efficiency and human welfare.
However, it may be that not all producers or consumers share in these potential benefits. Moreover, the developments themselves may have impacts on economic systems and on markets, some of which may be undesirable – such as increased monopoly power of input suppliers.
The aim of the special issue is to consider both the economic impacts of agricultural biotechnologies and whether the economic environment and economic systems are helping or hindering the development and uptake of these new technologies.
For more information, subject coverage, notes for intending authors, submission dates and contact information, see the Journal Call for papers website.

Call for papers: Special Issue on: “Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property”
International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation (IJTTC)
Call for papers: Special Issue on: “Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property”
Guest Editors: Professors Cherie Ann Sherman and Phil Anderson, Ramapo College of New Jersey, USA
Intellectual property (copyright, trademark, and patent) rights, once considered the bailiwick of a small group of elite researchers, are now the focus of corporations, universities and many small businesses around the globe. In the US, for example, almost all research universities now patent and license technology and even small colleges are becoming involved in this process. This new focus has fostered the formation of startup companies, generated jobs, and created better relations between educational institutions and their communities.
The goal of this special issue is to investigate, describe, and evaluate the current role IP rights play in facilitating the transfer of technology. With this knowledge, organisations, as well as entrepreneurs, can identify and adopt a strategy to take advantage of IP rights.
