Call for papers: Special Issue on: “Economics of Agricultural Biotechnology”

Guest Editors:Professor Richard Bennett, Dr Bhavani Shankar and Dr Chittur Srinivasan, University of Reading, UK.

Developments in agricultural biotechnology have the potential to increase agricultural outputs, reduce the level of input usage, improve product quality and characteristics, provide consumers with new products and reduce externalities associated with agricultural production. All of these can improve economic efficiency and human welfare.

However, it may be that not all producers or consumers share in these potential benefits. Moreover, the developments themselves may have impacts on economic systems and on markets, some of which may be undesirable – such as increased monopoly power of input suppliers.

The aim of the special issue is to consider both the economic impacts of agricultural biotechnologies and whether the economic environment and economic systems are helping or hindering the development and uptake of these new technologies.

For more information, subject coverage, notes for intending authors, submission dates and contact information, see the Journal Call for papers website.
