A special issue of International Journal of Computer Aided Engineering and Technology
With the rapid advance of biotechnology, in particular genomics and proteomics, research in the life sciences has been dramatically revolutionised. Modern life-science research is therefore calling for wider interdisciplinary methodologies to provide useful and rapid tools for aiding the process of targeted therapeutic interventions and biomarker discovery. One has recently become aware of novel notions in medicine and biology such as personalised medicine and computational systems biology where the adoption of information, engineering, and computer aided technologies is foreseen to play a critical role for the success of such significant biomedical findings to come.
This special issue aims to bring together various current and high-impact life-science problems addressed by novel approaches in engineering, computer science, information technology, physics, and mathematics. Its objective is not only to highlight current topics in computational life sciences including bioinformatics, computational biology, and health informatics, but also to serve as a melting pot where principles of different disciplines can be combined to form a richer integrated research platform in computational life sciences.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) new methods and/or novel applications of the following approaches to solving problems in life sciences:
