Call for papers: Trends in Data Mining Concept and Applications

Call for papers: Trends in Data Mining Concept and Applications

A special issue of International Journal of Data Mining, Modelling and Management

Since its inception, the field of data mining and knowledge discovery from databases has been driven by the need to solve practical problems. From scaling to large databases and handling noisy and high-dimensional data to finding associational patterns in grocery store transaction data, data mining is a research area, rich in application. Despite its practical roots, a few case studies of data mining applications have been published so far in different platforms.

This special issue will attempt to address the gap by publishing the choices, strategies, and lessons learned from building a real-world data mining application. Data mining is today applied in a panoply of successful applications from business, marketing, medical research, financial securities, astronomy, surveillance, and even sport, to name but a few. The papers in this special issue aim to represent all application domains, which will allow a glimpse of current usage of data mining technology in real world systems.

We welcome conceptual and empirical papers, as well as interesting case studies that are within the scope of this issue. The issue will contain some papers from the International Conference on Information Technology & Business Intelligence (ITBI-09), to be held 6-8 November 2009 and some papers submitted directly as per instructions below. If more accepted papers are received than are needed for special issue, they will appear in a regular issue, if the authors wish.

Recommended topic areas include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Trend in data mining techniques
  • Pattern discovery in continuous and discrete data
  • Decision support systems
  • Uncertain management for data mining
  • Web mining
  • Clustering algorithms and applications
  • Intelligent data mining systems,
  • XML mining
  • Text mining
  • Distributed data mining
  • Soft computing techniques in data mining
  • Applications of data mining techniques
