The key factors to build a smart city which is the urban centre of the future will be the use of smart materials with increasing levels of functionality and facilities. Smart materials find a wide range of applications due to their varied response to external events, and are able to create a sustainable environment which is an eco-friendly and energy efficient system. Currently advanced technologies related to materials are being investigated and developed to face many challenges and needs like longevity, cost, industrial probity, and so on. This will enable many solutions to problems related to smart cities.
Submitted papers are expected to cover state-of-the-art technologies, theoretical concepts, standards, products implementation, ongoing research projects and innovative applications of smart materials for smart cities.
The issue will carry revised and substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at the International Conference on Computational Materials Science and Thermodynamic Systems (CMST 2018), but we also strongly encourage researchers unable to participate in the conference to submit articles for this call.
