In the course of the last few decades, the communities related to image processing and computer vision have become the major contributors in computer science research. There is high impact and interest in the various theoretical aspects of image formation, modelling, pre-processing, analysis, object recognition, etc. which are further used for developing various applications. These theoretical aspects of image processing have further given way for the computer vision domains like robot vision, surveillance, visual tracking, super-resolution, scene analysis, action recognition, etc.
Computer vision is an interdisciplinary domain which makes the computer understand high-level knowledge using digital images or videos. In engineering perspective, computer vision deals with automating the human visual system. This process includes various methodologies for acquiring, processing, analysing and understanding the digital images thereby helping in taking high level decisions. In a scientific perspective, computer vision deals with the theoretical background of artificial systems that could extract valuable information from the images.
