Hybridisation of intelligent systems is a promising research field of modern artificial/computational intelligence concerned with the development of the next generation of intelligent systems. A fundamental stimulus to the investigations of Hybrid Intelligent Systems (HIS) is the awareness in the academic communities that combined approaches will be necessary if the remaining tough problems in artificial/computational intelligence are to be solved. Recently, Hybrid Intelligent Systems are becoming popular due to their capabilities in handling several real world complexities involving imprecision, uncertainty and vagueness.
Application of Hybrid Intelligent Systems to real-world problems is, however, complicated, as it requires crucial options among several approaches proposed so far in this domain. Further, results and lessons learnt from the application of HIS to real-world problems are of major significance for methodological research with the intention of refining the existing methods or devising new techniques.
The overall aim of this special issue is to compile the latest research and development, up-to-date issues, and challenges in the field of HIS. Proposed submissions should be original, unpublished, and present novel in-depth fundamental research contributions either from a methodological perspective or from an application point of view.
Suitable topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Interactions between neural networks and fuzzy inference systems
- Artificial neural network optimisation using global optimisation techniques
- Fuzzy clustering algorithms and optimisation techniques
