The objective of this special issue is to present the most recent research in advanced data science and agent-based technologies and applications.
Data science has been successfully applied to solving problems in fields such as management systems, service sciences, manufacturing industries and so on. Agent technologies have been studied to develop distributed intelligent systems and to analyse social problems. However, the potentialities of data science and agent-based systems compared to traditional techniques have not been investigated adequately.
A focus of the knowledge and data systems community is on intelligent systems to interact with humans using natural language and human-human communication. These aspects are also fundamental to the agent systems community, a focus of which is on intelligent systems in environments of bounded rationality.
The main aims of this issue are to bring together these communities to exchange latest results, to encourage joint efforts in solving common challenges, and to establish effective communication between researchers and developers involved in both areas in order to create a worthwhile synergy.
To support these goals, the issue will feature several tracks devoted to social networks, internet technologies and cyber-physical systems, as well as tracks devoted to common themes such as pervasive cloud computing, service sciences, data mining techniques and trustworthy computing. The research and development of these systems which exploit knowledge in the target domain is at the forefront of modern research.
