Radio-frequency identification (RFID) may be seen as one of the greatest technological innovations in the twenty-first century. Moreover, CNN identified RFID as one of the ‘‘Ten Technologies to Watch’’ in 2004, and ZDNet named RFID as one of the 10 most strategic technologies in 2005.
RFID enables automatic identification of objects by collecting raw data on tags and accessing these raw data via radio waves using RFID transponders remotely. Nowadays, RFID technology is widely used in many industries, including the fashion industry, supply chain and inventory operations, service delivery and customer satisfaction, mechanical and electrical engineering, and health management. RFID has become a new and exciting area of technological development, and is receiving increasing amounts of attention.
While RFID provides promising benefits such as inventory visibility and business process automation, significant challenges regarding information systems and technologies need to be overcome before these benefits can be realized.
This special issue will present the latest developments, trends, industrial applications and research challenges for RFID technology. The issue will explore how organizations can gain competitive advantages by applying RFID technology in real-world settings. It will encourage research that uses empirical and case study approaches to present the fundamental theory, techniques, applications and practical experiences in the context of designing the integrated systems. Furthermore, submissions of scientific results from technical experts from both academe and industry are welcomed.
Research areas of relevance include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Business process reengineering (BPR) and RFID
- Challenges in implementation and maintenance of RFID systems
- Commercial experience with RFID
- Customer relationship management (CRM) with RFID
- Data management issues in RFID applications
- Enterprise resource management (ERP) integration
- Impacts on costs and productivity (ROI)
- Innovative RFID-enabled applications
- Logistics and supply chain integration
- Next generation RFID technologies and RFID standards
- Performance evaluation of RFID systems and applications
- RFID case studies, field trials, industrial applications
- RFID middleware and integration of RFID with other applications
- RFID network management
- Security/privacy and RFID

Hy everyone, doing my research about Radio Frequency Identification Solutions I found one great FREE book about it. Book “Development and Implementation of RFID Technology” is about Design of Antennas for RFID Application, UHF RFID of People, Surface Acoustic Wave RFID Tags, Enhancing the Interactivity of Learning-Guide Systems with RFID etc. It is free to download here: http://www.intechopen.com/books/show/title/development_and_implementation_of_rfid_technology It contains of 31 chapters on this subject. Enjoy!
