Enterprises have faced great challenges in recent years from the aspects of delivering innovative products, increasing product complexity, competition throughout different product lifecycles, and dynamic changes in markets and supply chains fuelled by the pressure of time to market, globalisation and mass customisation. Knowledge based, systematic solutions for enterprise engineering integration and management have become an increasingly significant research focus. Although computer aided tools, such as CAD, CAE, CAPP, CAM, MRP, ERP and CRM, are commercially available, coherently integrated solutions for effective and efficient product innovation and enterprise operations are still lacking.

This special issue invites researchers to present original ideas, scientific methods, intelligent algorithms, innovative product design and development, product and process modelling, knowledge-based engineering solutions, computer system design, integration mechanisms, and application cases across different industrial sectors.

The focus of the issue is to highlight state-of-the-art research and applications in the field of knowledge-driven product innovation and enterprise management with particular reference to data modelling representation, algorithms, methodologies and techniques for enterprise engineering, covering product innovation management, new product development, product conceptualisation, design, manufacturing, product management, intelligent customer requirements and relations, risk management, decision support, resources management, supply chain management, change management, product lifecycle analysis and engineering, etc.
