Call for papers: Commercialization of Biomedical Technologies

A special issue of International Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Technology

The goal of this special issue is to present critical issues related to the commercialization of biomedical technologies and the effective strategies that apply these concepts to transform inventions into successful commercial products. This collection of manuscripts will discuss key aspects in the development of a broad range of novel and innovative technologies, including medical devices, diagnostics, and therapeutics.

The emphasis of the special issue is on critical challenges in the commercialization process specifically as they relate to biomedical technologies. Particular emphasis will be placed on examples where innovative solutions to these challenges have resulted in processes and products which impact the healthcare field and patient outcome.

Coverage includes but is not limited to the following topics (within the fields of medicine, health, environment, etc.):
  • Prototype development
  • Intellectual property development and asset management
  • Identification and alignment with market trends
  • Optimising academic-industrial-government collaborations
  • Technology transfer and licensing
  • Beta site strategy

Preliminary acceptance/rejection notification: 1 May, 2008
Full paper due: 1 August, 2008
Final acceptance/rejection notification: 1 September, 2008
Camera-ready paper due: 15 September, 2008
