A special issue of International Journal of Chinese Culture and Management
China is emerging as a global trader and global investor. With China’s accession to World Trade Organization (WTO), it has risen to the third largest trading economy (total trade over US$1.1 trillion) since 2004. China’s growing desire for overseas investment has also placed China as 17th in the world among outward investors in 2005 (World Investment Report 2006, UNCTAD). Along with this trend, Chinese firms such as China Mineral and Metal Corporation, Sinochem, Lenovo and Huawei Technology are completing global acquisition projects with the encouragement of Chinese government’s Going Global Strategy. However, it is imperative for Chinese TNCs to acquire skills and expertise to handle the changing management and governance of their operations abroad during their expansion process. Therefore, as far as the further development of Chinese domestic economy and Chinese firms’ strategy abroad are concerned, a number of questions are unsolved. This special issue addresses these questions, which include:
What are the regional and sectoral trends of Chinese ODI?
What are the ownership structure of Chinese firms' ODI?
What are the challenges and opportunities from Chinese firms' Going Global Strategy?
In what way does Chinese government policy affect Chinese firms' ODI?
What are the styles of management and governance of Chinese firms' overseas operation?
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Chinese ODI (Outward Direct Investment)
- Internationalisation strategy of Chinese firms
- Organizational culture and management of Chinese firms
- Re-entry experience of Chinese managers
- Foreign policy of China
- Immigration and overseas Chinese
- Environmental concerns and sustainable development
