Surface finish of a product affects its operating performance and service life. Nano-level surface finish is required for the critical components used in electronic, bio-medical, avionic, mechatronic and other engineering and scientific applications.
With increasing emphasis on the miniaturisation of products, demand for the development of nano-finishing processes is growing continuously. This necessitates (i) the development of new processes, machines and tools, characterisation methods, metrology equipment, parametric analysis, modelling and optimisation; and (ii) adaption and performance enhancement of existing nano-finishing processes through hybridisation, modelling and parametric optimisation. This special issue aims to cover all of these aspects of nano-finishing processes.
It will carry revised and substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at 2nd International Conference on Intelligent Robotics, Automation and Manufacturing (IRAM 2013), but we also strongly encourage researchers unable to participate in the conference to submit articles for this call.
Suitable topics include, but are not limited to, the following in relation to the nano-finishing process:
- Development
- Machines and tools
- Modelling
- Optimisation
- Characterisation
- Metrology
Important Dates
Submission of manuscripts: 31 January, 2015
