Call for papers: Energy and Propulsion Systems for Electrified Powertrains

Advanced energy storage systems, electric motors, power electronics and associated control and diagnostic technologies are integral parts of vehicle electrification. Despite the advancements in recent years in vehicle level design and integration, major technological and economical hurdles still need to be overcome at component and key technological areas, in order to promote sustainable growth and market penetration for electrified vehicles, including EV, HEV, PHEV and FCEV applications.

The primary objective of this special issue is to compile state of the art research and development efforts in design, optimisation, controls, functional safety, diagnostics and prognostics technologies of advanced power and propulsion subsystems for electrified powertrains, with focus on electric machines and drive systems, power electronics, advanced energy storage systems and battery management systems (BMS).

Suitable topics include but are not limited to:

 Advanced energy storage systems
  •  Design, integration and future market perspectives of high voltage batteries
  •  Active battery cooling and thermal management systems
  •  Hybrid energy storage systems (Li-Ion batteries, NiMH batteries, super capacitors, etc.)

  •  Advances in testing methodologies of high voltage batteries
  •  Low voltage advanced batteries for micro hybrid vehicles
 Battery management systems
  •  Advanced battery management systems (functions, requirements, topology and design)
  •  Battery SOC , SOH and SOP and battery usage monitoring
  •  Cell monitoring/cell balancing and battery charging management
  •  Fault management, diagnostics and prognostics of battery and high voltage system
  •  Functional safety of battery management systems
 Electric machine and drive systems
  •  High power density electrical machines for propulsion applications
  •  Novel magnetic materials to reduce the usage of rare earth materials
  •  Advanced motor control technologies
  •  Control and diagnostics of motor and power electronics
  •  Electric motor and power electronics thermal analysis and cooling design
 Electrified propulsion system design and integration
  •  Onboard diagnostics, prognostic and fail-safe strategies and system safety mechanisms
